"Private ATV tour" sounds simple, but operators use the word for different things. Sometimes it means your own guide on the trail, sometimes your own van, sometimes both. Here's how to know what you're paying for and whether it's worth it for your group.
What "private" can mean
Before you book, find out which of these the tour includes:
- Private transportation: your group travels alone in the van, straight from your hotel to the park and back, with no stops at other hotels.
- Private guide or ride: your group rides the trail without other guests.
- Flexible schedule: you choose the pickup time instead of fitting a fixed route.
Our Private ATV Tour is built around private transportation: an air-conditioned van with a professional driver, for groups of 5 to 8 people travelling together. You avoid waiting for other passengers and you go directly to the park, where you choose the experiences you want.
Who a private tour is worth it for
- Families with kids, who need flexibility for snacks, bathroom stops and nap times
- Groups of friends (birthdays, bachelor and bachelorette trips) who want their own vibe in the van
- Guests in Airbnbs or smaller hotels outside the standard pickup routes
- Anyone with a tight schedule who wants to be back at a specific time
If you're two people on a flexible holiday, shared transportation is usually the better value.
How pricing works
With private transport, you pay for the tour per person plus a fee per van. Our van prices (paid at the park, 1–8 passengers):
| Pickup area | Price per van |
|---|---|
| Cancun | $80 USD |
| Puerto Morelos | $80 USD |
| Costa Mujeres | $100 USD |
| Playa del Carmen | $110 USD |
For a group of 8 from Cancun, that's $10 per person on top of the tour price. For a group of 5, it's $16 each. In both cases it's often less than people expect for door-to-door service.
The tour itself includes, depending on the option you choose: a 30-minute individual ATV ride, a 4-zipline circuit, the conservation fee, ATV insurance, tequila tasting and a Mayan snack, with 30 minutes of horseback riding available on some options. Photos, alcoholic drinks and lockers are not included.

Questions to ask before booking any private tour
- Is the van private, the guide private, or both?
- How many people fit in one vehicle, and what happens if we're 9 or more?
- Is the transport fee per person or per van? When and how is it paid?
- Can we choose our pickup time?
- Can different people in the group do different activities?
- Are child seats available if we need them?
Private tours for bigger groups
If you're more than 8, you'll typically need a second van or a larger vehicle. Contact the operator directly rather than booking two separate vans online, so they can coordinate pickups and keep your group together at the park. For ideas for big groups, see our guide to Cancun group activities.
Frequently asked questions
How many people can join a private ATV tour in Cancun?
It depends on the operator. Our private transportation is designed for groups of 5 to 8 people per van. For larger groups, contact us to arrange extra vehicles.
Is a private ATV tour more expensive?
You pay the tour price per person plus the van fee. For a full van, the extra cost per person is small. For two people, shared transport is usually better value.
Can we book a private tour for a special occasion?
Yes. Birthdays, honeymoons and bachelor or bachelorette groups often choose private transport. Message us on WhatsApp with your date and group size.
