Getting ready for an ATV adventure through the Mayan jungle? A little preparation goes a long way toward making your day comfortable, safe, and mud-free (well, mostly). Here's exactly what to bring — and what to leave at the hotel.
What to wear
- Closed-toe shoes — sneakers or hiking shoes. Sandals and flip-flops aren't allowed on the ATVs for safety reasons.
- Clothes you don't mind getting dirty — the jungle trails can be dusty or muddy depending on the season.
- A swimsuit under your clothes if your tour includes cenote swimming or a zipline circuit near water.
- A light jacket or long sleeves if you're visiting in the cooler months (December–February evenings can be breezy).
What to bring
- Biodegradable sunscreen (regular sunscreen can harm the cenote's ecosystem — more on that in our cenote guide)
- A change of clothes and a small towel for after your cenote swim
- A dry bag or ziplock bag to protect your phone and wallet
- Cash for tips, souvenirs, or drinks not included in your package
Heads up: photography and lockers aren't included.
What to leave behind
Leave valuables, expensive jewelry, and anything you can't afford to get muddy back at your hotel.
